This is why this year’s Budapest Christmas fair prices will skyrocket

This year, the Hungarian capital’s Christmas market is not organised by the Municipality of Budapest, but by the Municipality of District V. There is a big difference between the public space usage fee and the rental fee. This will make many products more expensive.

The fair will be more expensive

Vörösmarty Square in the centre of Budapest is home to Hungary’s most famous Christmas market every year. Due to the high interest and the many foreign visitors, this is probably where the prices are the highest, but for a number of reasons prices may rise further.

For decades the fair has been organised by the Municipality of Budapest and one of its non-profit companies. This year, that will change as the Hungarian government has entrusted the 5th district municipality with this task. The municipality charges one and a half times as much in rent from vendors as the capital did in previous years.

According to napi.hu, during the 45 days of the Christmas market, the public space fee for a 100 square metre pavilion is HUF 5 million. A rent of HUF 60 million will be charged to the owners of the stalls. In Vörösmarty Square, which is a priority public space according to the 5th district municipality, a daily fee of 1,091 forints per square metre is charged for the stalls.

The event organiser

The Municipality of Budapest commissioned Budapest Brand. The fair is organised by AVB Event Management Ltd. The Hungarian government has nationalised Vörösmarty Square and its operation The municipality has nothing to do with the prices AVB charges.

Rising energy prices and inflation will only make prices worse. Hungary’s best-known Christmas fair starts on 18 November and runs until 31 December.

  1. Driven there, besides Greed & Exploitation & Abuse – by Hungarian operators, the PRINCIPAL Catalyst being Vladimir Putin, the extremely close friend of the Hungarian Prime Minister and Government, through the waging of the war on the Ukraine – by one of our (2) two closest friendship countries, ironically both are DICTATORSHIPS being Russia and China.
